2 Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 “Take nothing for your journey,” he instructed them. “Don’t take a walking stick, a traveler’s bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes.

1 The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit.
17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”
Following God is an adventure. Sometimes we have no idea how things are going to turn out, but we choose to move forward in faith. That adventure became very real for me in the summer of 2016.
Leading up to that time, I was feeling very restless and felt like I needed a change in some way. I also met a charming Texan named Nathan and I had a feeling I would one day have his last name. I prayed a lot and talked to the people closest to me. I asked God, “Are you leading me to move to the other side of the country?” In answer to that question, my confidants and I sensed the green light.
Thus began the process of selling and giving away everything I owned, except what fit in my little Yaris and a couple boxes at my mom’s place. I planned a tour from Nova Scotia to British Columbia with my friend and fellow musician Dana Marie, and off we went.
I was afraid but I couldn’t wait for the fear to go away before I moved forward. I just did it afraid.
As Dana and I began our trek across Canada, we saw God provide in awesome ways. A few times we had people give us unexpected money to help with the journey. We also saw God’s protection as we were driving: One day we were running very behind and I had made a wrong turn. We didn’t make it to our goal destination for the evening (thankfully not a day that we had a concert), but had to stop overnight halfway. We found out the next day that three moose were hit that night on the highway we were originally planning to take!
I am so thankful I took that crazy step because I got to see God lead and provide, and the move led me to my wonderful husband Nathan. Creating music with him is a dream come true for me.
This journey reminds me of one the disciples took when Jesus sent them out to spread the news about the Kingdom of God to all the surrounding areas. They couldn’t even take any extra clothing or money! I bet some of them were afraid, yet in the end they came back full of stories of how they saw God move and provide.
Sometimes God calls us to take some scary leaps of faith. We don’t always know in advance what the result will be. However, what we DO know is that God loves us and wants to take care of his children. We just need to be faithful and sensitive to His voice. We can trust Him that He is our loving Heavenly Father who works all things together for good.
What is God calling you to do? Is there someone that needs an encouraging phone call? Or your forgiveness? Or an invitation to church? Is there a story, photo, poem, song, or painting you’ve done that needs to be shared? A new project you feel led to start? Whatever it is, let’s put away our fears and follow God’s leading into the adventures He has awaiting us!
